Before the ceremony begins, you will gain a deeper understanding of the history, philosophy, and essence of the tea ceremony, as well as the significance of Matcha through engaging and informative materials. This enriching introduction enhances your appreciation of the experience.
WHAT TO EXPECT
At Kissho, we offer a quiet, seated experience where guests can engage with the fundamentals of Japanese matcha. This is not a show, and not a formal, speechless tea ceremony. It is a calm, hands-on session where tradition is shared simply and sincerely.
You will learn the basic tools and steps of matcha preparation, observe a demonstration, and then make your own bowl of tea. A seasonal wagashi (Japanese sweet) is served to accompany the moment.
Our matcha is organic and locally sourced.
The experience is shaped to be welcoming, unhurried, and respectful of Kyoto’s quiet way.
RYUREI-STYLE
Ryurei-style is a form of tea ceremony that was developed in 1872 by a great tea master. It uses chairs and tables, making it more comfortable for those who are not accustomed to sitting on the floor, including guests from overseas.
